In response, attendees and concerned fans have started a petition that has swelled to more than 100,000 signees urging the festival to replace Kanye. In response to this petition, Glasto organizer Emily Eavis has written an op-ed in 'The Guardian,' defending the festival's decision to choose Kanye West and why those fans are wrong. She says headlining acts "never have been limited to rock, and they never will be."

  • Dalai Lama to Give Speech at Glastonbury '15

Glastonbury has always had a social awareness component to it since the modern Glastonbury Festival was founded in the 1970s. According to reports, the legendary festival will now play host to the one and only Dalai Lama on the final day of the festival, June 28. In a now-deleted post on his holiness's website, according to reports, he announces the news saying, "His Holiness will give a talk at the Glastonbury Festival in the morning." The Dalai Lama will also be in England the next day, June 29, to give a talk. Glastonbury will take place over five days in 2015, from June 24 to 28. There has been only one artist confirmed thus far on the lineup: Lionel Richie. Richie will be playing the Sunday afternoon legends slot. "I'm really excited to play Glastonbury next year, as it's one of the most iconic festivals in the world," Richie told "The Guardian." "It has a phenomenal history and the alumni of artists who have previously played is incredible, so I'm honored to be joining that club. It will be a really special moment for me and I can't wait to share it with everyone. Additional artists have been rumored to join the lineup like Fleetwood Mac and AC/DC, but there have been no official announcements as of yet.
  • Lionel Richie Confirmed for Glastonbury; Dave Grohl, Foo Fighters Still Want to Play

Lionel Richie is the first big name secured for Glastonbury's 2015 festival. The "All Night Long (All Night)" singer will perform during the event's Sunday afternoon slot, which is historically reserved for some of the most-respected names in music. Paul Simon, Leonard Cohen and Brian Wilson have all played Glastonbury's Sunday afternoon set. Dolly Parton had the honor last year, drawing an enormous crowd, "NME" noted. No headliners have been announced, and Dave Grohl's Foo Fighters have yet to receive a call about performing at the legendary festival. I can now say, 'Yes, I'm playing Glastonbury.'" Organizer Emily Eavis was ecstatic to book Richie, saying there will be "a lot of love" for the artist at Glastonbury. Earlier this month, Grohl suggested that Eavis contact his band to play the festival, but that call has not come yet. "She hasn't called — I have not gotten the call yet," he said. "The Foo Fighters haven't been there since 1998, so er ... and that's a fun festival." Eavis seemed open to the idea when the frontman suggested it, though.
