After taking over a year off to handle her family situation, Angelina Jolie announced that she is returning to acting as the main villain in the “Maleficent” movie sequel. It appears that her acting comeback was spurred by her divorce from Brad Pitt, of all things.

"I am now the breadwinner for the family, so it's time," Jolie said. She has been spending a lot of time behind the camera including “First They Killed My Father,” which is set to debut on Netflix on September 15. Jolie added that her return to acting has also something to with not having any film to direct that she felt passionate about like the said film reports E! News.

The 2014 “Maleficent” was a mega hit, raking in more than $750 million in the box office worldwide. The sequel of the Disney movie will mark Jolie’s first onscreen appearance since the 2015 film “By the Sea.”

Her role as Sleeping Beauty’s nemesis made Jolie intimidated at first according to People. The actress revealed that she thought that she was not good enough to play her. Jolie made this revelation at a discussion at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday.

Knowing that the villain had to have a commanding on screen presence, Jolie got a voice coach to make her portrayal distinct and have an extra edge. However, it was her six kids that she turned to in finally deciding Maleficent’s voice and mannerisms.

Jolie further revealed that she discovered everything about Maleficent including the accent while she was giving her kids baths. “I think I tried 17 different things on them. They would say, ‘What are you doing? Mom, stop talking so weird,’ “ the actress said. When she did the voice that had her kids falling over laughing, she knew she found it and did it all night long.

Movie sequels, most often than not, fail to live up to the original. The “Maleficent” sequel may not be among them. Jolie is excited about it and said that it will be a really strong sequel.
