Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, popularly known for their band Simon & Garfunkel, had a fallout in 1970, which resulted in the duo separating and stopping creating music together. However, things didn't completely end for the pair, as they were able to reunite ten years later.

In the second part of the documentary In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon, the 82-year-old legend recalled the moment he and his good pal met up a decade after their friendship initially ended. This meeting opened up a new chapter for both of them because it was also the time when Simon & Garfunkel restarted and picked up where they left off.

In early reports, Simon explained that one reason their friendship didn't continue to blossom was their separate careers. The singer mentioned that their connection worsened when Garfunkel went on to film a movie in Mexico and extended his stay for his acting role.

That worsened their argument, and the musician considered it a "recipe for the breakup" of the group.

According to People Magazine, Simon recalled in part two of his documentary that he was asked to perform a concert in Central Park in the 1980s. However, the sales and reception of his new album One-Trick Pony weren't that great, so he thought of a great idea to boost his popularity.

"'Well I just had this big flop, maybe I should ask Artie to come and sing some songs on this,'" he thought at the time.

Simon & Garfunkel Reunion Was Bigger Than They Thought

Initially, Simon expected the show to be just a small benefit concert. However, they were shocked to see over half a million people attend the event to watch their reunion.

However, the show was interrupted because an unruly fan jumped over the barricade and went up on stage while singing the track "The Late Great Johnny Ace." Fortunately, the concertgoer was escorted off.

Simon & Garfunkel Reunion Opened Up a Door For the Pair

After their first reunion in over ten years, their Central Park show opened up a new chapter for the duo as they became even more popular after all these years.

"It was such a big hit - and then that sort of forced us into... forced me into putting the group back together again and doing a tour," he said.

Initially, Simon said both of them were "antagonistic," but after their reunion, he decided to forget everything that had happened in the past and move forward to continue their legacy.

Simon & Garfunkel went on to reunite and create music for good.
