Billie Eilish gears up to release her new album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, on May 17, 2024, but with a larger rollout goal.

The Oscar-winning singer recently received backlash for her statements about Vinyl sustainability after she called out artists who release different variants of Vinyl pressings for their album rollout.

Billie Eilish Has A Larger Goal in Mind for 'Hit Me Hard and Soft'

Speaking to Billboard exclusively, Eilish discussed her plan for her album rollout.

"The fact that I have a far bigger audience and platform than I've ever had in my life means I can reach that many more people, and that's such a huge responsibility and privilege to have," she told the publication. "If I don't use that privilege to do some good in the world, then what's the point?"

On her official website, Eilish has added a Sustainability tab. When clicked, the said tab would redirect visitors to a transparent breakdown and explanation of the album's eco-friendly innovations.

Billie Eilish Sustainable Eco-Friendly Innovations on Vinyl Releases

Eilish revealed, through her website, that she'll only be limiting the variants of her Vinyl releases to eight (all including the Amazon, Target, and Walmart editions). The standard variant will be made from 100% recycled black vinyl (made of leftovers from any color that cannot be used), while the remaining seven will be made of ECO-MIX or BioVinyl.

For the ECO-MIX or BioVinyl, Eilish uses a recyclable compound, collecting all first-run scraps to re-use for additional ones later in the production. Per Eilish's website, BioVinyl "helps reduce carbon emissions by 90% vs. virgin vinyl by using non-fossil fuel materials like used cooking oil or industrial waste gases while maintaining the same audio and optical quality as conventional vinyl."

Meanwhile, all the vinyl packaging will be made from FSC-certified recycled paper/board from post-consumer waste and recycled pre-consumer fibers. The ink that will be used to print the album is raw plant-based and water-based dispersion varnish.

Instead of using shrink-wrap, the vinyl sleeves will be 100% recycled and reusable, while the shipping boxes used are 93% recycled and made from 100% recyclable shipping boxes.

"We are doing everything we can to minimize waste in every aspect of my music," Eilish told Billboard. "[My label has] listened to my concerns and helped me find the best way forward when releasing music and product into the world."
