Kate Middleton has one heck of a job. There are always opinions on the Duchess of Cambridge floating around. Some say she's too thin, she's not healthy, other says she wants another baby, or that she doesn't want one and was trapped into providing a "spare." The commentary is endless and one can only begin to imagine what it must feel like under that constant spotlight. A recent article about Middleton claims she's far smarter than other members of the royal family while then making it sound like her every move is completely controlled.

According to Germaine Greer of Newsweek Europe: "Kate is not even allowed to decorate her own houses. Even the wives of the American presidents get to do that. The whole thing is a mad anachronism. The 'firm' tell us that the first born will now become the monarch regardless of sex. She cannot do or say anything spontaneous. She has learned what she has to do and say and how to do and say it in the approved way. Spontaneity will get her in trouble."

What's interesting is the fact that Middleton really is the reason that Queen Elizabeth has taken several steps to move the monarchy out of the dark ages. Middleton's marriage to Prince William has certainly been an interesting catalyst to changing several things, such as a first born child no longer needs to be a boy to rule. It's hard to imagine that her staying silent has prompted Elizabeth to action. Middleton may not be able to choose her own throw pillows but she is certainly leaving her mark on the family in a much bigger way. She also doesn't give off the impression of being the kind of woman that simply does as she is told.

As far as actually being Prince William's wife, Middleton knew exactly what she was signing up for. For years the press referred to her as "Waity Katie" because she stuck around for an eternity before that proposal came along. Middleton waited patiently to sit exactly where she does now and if Greer's hunch about her intelligence is right, than Middleton likely intended to bring changes to an otherwise stuffy monarchy.
