For the longest time Twin Peaks creator David Lynch insisted that the door was shut and bolted on the cult classic that to this day sparks online debates over what really happened in that cliffhanger ending some 25 years ago. Obviously you can't believe everything you hear and people can change their minds so last Friday when both Lynch and Twin Peaks co-creator Mark Frost posted identical tweets at 11:30am with the hash tag #damngoodcoffee, fans took notice and crossed their fingers that it was a sign.

"Damn good coffee" was a line often used by Kyle MacLachlan's character, Agent Cooper, in the original series. He also just so happened to breeze into town at 11:30am to hunt for clues in the murder of homecoming queen Laura Palmer. This morning it was confirmed that Twin Peaks is indeed returning for a limited run on Showtime and while MacLachlan hasn't been confirmed to be joining the new cast, Frost seems to be teasing that it's an announcement that is imminent.

In an interview with Deadline Frost says that the idea to bring the show back started taking shape about three years ago and that there is a real need to hand something fantastic to the most diehard fans that have turned a two-season show into a pop culture phenomenon.

"One of the things we always did when talking about the series is, we didn't tell people what to think about it or say that there was one definite way to interpret anything. We always felt it was best to let the story speak for itself and also let the intelligence of the viewer contribute to what they thought was going on. So I never like to answer questions too specifically, David is sort of the same way. Having said that, I think there will be a lot of things that people have wanted to know over the years that if they pay close attention, they are going to be satisfied." It seems that Lynch and Frost are planning on telling a new story as the show's centerpiece but that it will somehow connect to many of the pieces left hanging from Twin Peaks' original run.

The new Twin Peaks is expected to begin airing on Showtime in 2016 with both Frost and Lynch co-writing episodes. Of course Lynch will be directing the updated venture. Are you excited to hear that this cult classic is getting a reboot that will honor its' history while telling a new story?
