Some big names including Tom Petty, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and Steve Miller were nominated for the Songwriters Hall of Fame recently. 

The Hall's 2015 list of nominees spans from disco to country. Performing songwriters who got the nod include Gloria Estefan, Cat Stevens, Toby Keith, Steve Winwood, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, Harry Wayne "K.C." Casey of KC & the Sunshine Band, Vince Gill, Cyndi Lauper and Elvis Costello, Billboard notes. 

Non-performing songwriters nominated for the honor include Linda Perry, Allee Willis, Rod Temperton, Motown songwriter William "Mickey" Stevenson, Bobby Braddock, Bob McDill, Rudy Clark and Randy Edelman. Songwriting partners include Mike Chapman & Nicky Chinn, Sandy Linzer & Denny Randell, P.F. Sloan & Steve Barri and Robert Hunter & Jerry Garcia

The winners will be inducted at a ceremony in June 2015. According to the organization's website, every year, "the Songwriters Hall of Fame honors those whose work represents a spectrum of the most beloved songs from the world's popular music songbook." 

The Songwriters Hall of Fame was established in 1969 and includes a notable list of wordsmiths like Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, Hal David and Burt Bacharach, John Fogerty, Bob Dylan, Carole King, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Sir Elton John, Bernie Taupin, Brian Wilson, James Taylor, James Brown, Bruce Springsteen, Curtis Mayfield, Van Morrison, Kris Kristofferson, Dolly Parton and Leonard Cohen, among others. 

In 2010, the Hall received its first official home in Los Angeles at the Grammy Museum. Exhibits are separated into three sections: Early American Song, Tin Pan Alley and Rock N' Roll. 

This year's inductees included Ray Davies, Donovan, Graham Gouldman, Mark James and Jim Weatherly
