It's been a while since Gwen Stefani has released her own solo song, but today (Oct. 20) her new single "Baby Don't Lie" has finally arrived. With a high profile coaching stint on season seven of The Voice, the timing is right for the pop star and No Doubt frontwoman to release a new track, and she's done it with the insanely catchy, reggae tinted "Baby Don't Lie."

Unlike Stefani's previous solo efforts, which include the mid-2000s gems "Hollaback Girl," "The Sweet Escape" and "Wind It Up," "Baby Don't Lie" pulls less from rowdy, loud pop and hones in on more of Stefani's tropical and reggae roots. Though the rolling, thunderous beat at the very top of the song falls right in line with her earlier discography, "Baby Don't Lie" quickly pulls a left turn with twinkling keyboards and a soft musical melody.

Then, enter Stefani. With her signature sassy, slightly reggae-touched vocals, Stefani really sells the emotions of this song. Perfectly planned breaks in her voice and her general throaty tone really sell the story of a perfect relationship that may or may not be doomed thanks to "something behind those eyes."

Though catchy and a real earworm in its own right, "Baby Don't Lie" doesn't seem to have quite the infectious annoyance of some of Stefani's other works (I mean, this is really no "Hollaback Girl"), but it's a more solid, well-rounded pop single. With a few key placements on The Voice, it's sure to be another hit for Stefani on this solo go-around... which is more than we can say for Fergie.

"Baby Don't Lie" is the first solo single from Gwen Stefani since 2008. The track is the lead single from her third studio album, due out sometime in the coming months. Stefani has been hard at work on the album with her frequent collaborator Pharrell Williams, who has teased her new effort as on "another level."
