Live performances are changing every day with the development of brand new technologies and Dutch DJ / producer Armin van Buuren is at the forefront of that. Van Buuren has partnered with Canadian technology company Thalmic Labs on their new gesture control armband, Myo. The technology, which has been customized to his own live set up by Haute Technologies, allows Armin van Buuren to control his own lighting and stage effects hands free (via CNET).
In a press release, the CEO of Thalmic Labs spoke highly of the new partnership. "It is amazing to see our technology on the arms of one of the top DJs in the world, helping Armin deliver an amazing performance," said Stephen Lake, Co-founder and CEO of Thalmic Labs. "The Myo armband is an exciting new way to control digital technology, whether it's on stage in front of 10,000 fans or at home on the couch."
Armin van Buuren has been ahead of the curve in terms of innovating his live setup by controlling his live visuals with one of the pioneer CDJ mixers in his setup and using a GoPro to help interact with fans and do music videos with live footage.
Armin used his "A State of Trance" residency in Ibiza at Ushuaia to test out the technology on his live production. He explained, saying,"I always love to involve new ideas into my show. Crowd interaction is absolutely key to me and the Myo helps me with this. It can create a unique experience for the clubber and it feels like I'm even closer to them."
Armin van Buuren will finish the last few shows of his Armin Intense tour this winter with two shows at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam before taking some time off to recharge and come back to North America to close out the year. One of those dates includes one at Pier 94 on Dec. 29 for RPM Presents Big Week NYC. Check out the dates below and maybe you will see the Myo armband in action.
