The Arctic Monkeys have dominated the UK rock scene since their major label debut Whatever People Say I Am... became the fastest-selling album in British history in 2006.

Their impact on the American charts has been less impressive (four straight Top-15 appearances compared to five straight No. 1 spots in the UK), but still enough to have become a household name in the States over the past decade.

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl had some high praise for the group during a recent interview with The Sun (via NME).

"They are f---ing awesome. They're taking over America," Grohl said. "The American audiences f---ing love them. Alex Turner, f--- yeah, he's a rock star. I'll see a young band like them become that popular and think, 'Please God, don't let them self-destruct'. Because it happens, you know. But they seem like a band of brothers. Those four dudes seem like they're doing really well and will be for a while."

Grohl doesn't appear to have a solid grasp of the band's history (bands that fall apart after five albums don't exactly "self-destruct") but he's right in the sense that the Monkeys are more popular now in America than they ever have been, based on record sales for 2013's A.M.

Another highlight from The Sun interview was Grohl's take on marijuana.

"I stopped doing drugs when I was about 20 years old," he said. "But I recently thought, 'Oh, I'm going to start smoking pot again to cure insomnia. I'd put the kids to bed, go upstairs and smoke a bit of pot. But then I'd get stuck in front of the Kardashians on TV for 45 minutes. And it freaked me out. I was like, 'I'm never doing this ever again. It's definitely not for me.'"

The Foo Fighters recently announced a massive 2015 tour. Check out information on dates and cities here.
