Gorillaz singer Damon Albarn filled in as the guest DJ on Dermot O'Leary's BBC Radio 2 show on Oct. 5. During the show, he interviewed Idris Elba and The Clash's Paul Simonon. He also debuted an unreleased Gorillaz track called "Whirlwind," which didn't make the cut for 2010's Plastic Beach.

According to Consequence of Sound, the song was recorded with Syrian National Orchestra in Damscus. Due to the current political turmoil in Syria, Albarn said he hasn't been able to contact several members of the orchestra. He dedicated the song to them. The Middle-Eastern sounds are prevalent in the 90-second song, which seems like it could be taken from the soundtrack of a foreign film.

As for the future of Gorillaz, Albarn told The Guardian back in June that after he is finished recording a new Blur album, he and Jamie Hewlett would start working on new Gorillaz material.
