Despite being an animated band, Gorillaz managed to have thousands of fans from around the world. To prove their success, the group held two concerts: one in the United States and another one in the United Kingdom, both of which were attended by hundreds of fans.

According to NME, the band recently dropped their new single "Skinny Ape" and to celebrate the song's release, they performed at Times Square in New York City and Piccadilly Circus in London, both shows needed the help of augmented reality.

Fans who attended the concerts downloaded a specific app for them to witness the 3D band in action. The shows combined the real world and the computer-generated universe together.

In a press release before the shows, the band told fans that they will have an opportunity to see Gorillaz's members Murdoc, Russel, Noodle, and 2D perform live by towering over them "playing in the midst of two of the world's most iconic skylines.

Created by Nexus Studios, both concerts were directed by Jamie Hewlett, the co-creator of the band, and Fx Goby, popularly known for being an Emmy-nominated director.

With the help of Google's ARCore Geospatial API, the production team was able to hold both events successfully.
