The Golden Globes listed five nominations for Best Original Song earlier this week, and the Academy Awards have now followed suit with a "short list" of 79 songs up for the same title. The Globe will be decided on the night of Jan. 11, but the Oscars don't take place until Feb. 22, so there's still a full month before that lengthy selection of songs gets pared down to five. Among the nominees are Coldplay ("Miracles" from Unbroken), Lorde ("Yellow Flicker Beat" from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1), Lana Del Rey ("Big Eyes" from Big Eyes), Common ("Glory" from Selma) and Glen Campbell ("I'm Not Gonna Miss You" from Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me).

Lorde's soundtrack for The Hunger Games has been a very popular news item for most of the year thanks to the slow unveiling of contributing artists. Unfortunately, "Yellow Flicker Beat" is the only cut from the album that was on the Academy's short list.

Back in October, the teenager said she'd been working obsessively on the project. After playing shows, she'd head back to the tour bus to work on the project into the night.

"I've washed my hair before we started moving," she said. "Taken my dinner with me into the bunk, and worked for another four hours."

The New Zealander pretty much had complete creative control on the project, which was rumored to have a $200,000 budget.

"I knew this was right for me as an artist and I felt it would be cool for my career," Lorde said. "People that see me as having a couple of hits and performing on an awards show would see that, between records, I'd committed to a pretty serious body of work."
