We all can agree that the last few months were marked by Foo Fighters overload. They released their eighth studio effort, Sonic Highways, in November while the companion HBO series was already underway. Dave Grohl and Co. jammed for an entire week on The Late Show with David Letterman and, just last night (Dec. 18), they joined Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show for a thumping rendition of "I Am a River," Consequence of Sound notes.

Grohl and the boys really give the performance their all, holding back no expense as they perform with a full string orchestra. The frontman's voice sounds weathered, like he's been screaming nonstop for the past couple months (which he pretty much has). Everything really works in the Foo's favor for the performance too. The lights are spectacular, the audience is loving it and the strings sound beautiful.

It's fitting that Grohl chose "I Am a River" for The Tonight Show because it was the last song the group wrote while in New York during the last stop on their long, musical journey. The eight-episode series showed the band exploring music roots in Chicago, Austin, New Orleans, Nashville and Seattle. But, as The Daily Show's Jon Stewart pointed out, there are plenty of more cities in the U.S.A.

Yes, a second documentary series might happen.

"Bigger," Grohl said about the possible follow-up. "Sonic Highways has just opened up a whole new world of possibilities for the band and for me."

The album peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 and was met with mixed reviews.
