Will tomorrow night be a real turning point for Jennifer Aniston? The actress is up for a Golden Globe Award as outstanding lead actress for her role in the dark indie flick Cake, and she seems to have a pretty decent shot of walking away with it. This seems to have been a year of real growth for Aniston in a multitude of ways. She has handled the press differently, tackling topics dead on, rather than hiding from them and she has talked about personal growth. It's that growth that ultimately allowed her to take the role of a chronic pain sufferer in Cake and the rewards already, have been great.

Aniston recently told The New York Times that she has tried to break out of being typecast as Rachel Green (her Friends character) in every film, but she was never taken seriously, at least not until now.

"You have to do something really dark to be taken seriously, I guess. If you're in someone's living room every week for 10 years and every day on God knows what network, people are going to have a hard time saying, 'O.K., we're going to see you do what now?' without making associations. It's a Catch-22. It's like: 'I know I can play this part, you just have to let me.' And then it's 'I can't let you play that part, because I've never seen you do it.' There were jobs that I really wanted and would fight and fight for and then the obvious previous Oscar winners would get them." explains Aniston.

Even if Aniston doesn't scoop up an arm full of trophies during award's season, do you think that the critical acclaim that she has received will be enough to keep her booking projects with grittier characters? It sounds like what she actually will want to do and now that she has proven that she can, will Hollywood look at her a bit differently? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
