Despite The Allman Brothers Band parting ways last year, leader Gregg Allman hit the road this month to kick the New Year off right. The "Midnight Rider" must have a touring itch too since he recently announced plans for a spring trek. Allman will head back out in March for a 21-date excursion that will kick off in Ohio on the 13th and wrap May 9 with an appearance at Austin City Limits, Rolling Stone notes.
It's nice to see that the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer isn't letting the end of his landmark group stop him from entertaining audiences. For his upcoming tour, he'll make big stops at the House of Blues in Chicago (March 19-20), the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles (April 24), and the Stagecoach Music Festival in Indio (April 25). The Allman Bros ended their 45-year career in October with a slew of dates at New York's Beacon Theatre. There were no special guests or gimmicks, just good old fashioned jamming.
Allman foreshadowed his plans to keep on touring solo prior to the final shows.
"I've really enjoyed these years at the Beacon," he said. "I fully intend to come back here every year, if I can get in, with my [solo] band to play."
