Even though it's been over seven years since Modest Mouse released a new full-length album, the band is not lacking in banging new material. Today (Feb. 3), one month before the release of Strangers to Ourselves, Modest Mouse dropped another biting, hook-filled new song: "The Best Room."

Like the best of Modest Mouse's material, "The Best Room" is highlighted by a stomping musical hook, contrasted perfectly with Isaac Brock's stressed and chaotic vocals. Throw in a perfectly melodic guitar, and you have the best formula for any Modest Mouse song, and "The Best Room" incorporates all these elements flawlessly.

The immediate start of "The Best Room" is what really makes this song kick. From the first microsecond, there's the pounding drum, the catchy strings and Brock's own signature sound. It throws you right in the middle of things, and it's very effective.

When you take "The Best Room" and add it to the previously released Strangers to Ourselves tracks, "Lampshades on Fire" and "Coyotes," it's clear that the band has been building to this new album for a long time, carefully curating and crafting the tracks for maximum effect. And it's shaping up to be a killer return to the spotlight for Modest Mouse.
