When Katy Perry's gospel career failed to gain much traction in the early 2000s, she turned to pop and never looked back. But it is clear God still plays an important role in her life: He apparently spoke to her before the internationally televised Super Bowl XLIX halftime show, after all, telling her, "I got you."

"I overprepared myself and did a lot of prayer and meditation," she told radio.com. "It's funny, I was praying and I got a word from God and he says, 'You got this and I got you.' And then I was on top of the lion and a guy, a random guy, just looked at me with a headset that I've never communicated with before and he just looked me straight in the eyes and said, 'You got this.' And I was like, 'Oh, this is God confirming I can do this.'"

The performance was the most-watched television show of all time, and Perry followed it up with an anti-domestic violence rendition of "By the Grace of God" at the Grammys on Sunday night, Feb. 8.

Standing in front of a white screen, Perry delivered an emotional version of the tune. Our own Ryan Book reviewed the show and said Perry's song might have a ripple effect.

"The performance will certainly prove controversial," he wrote. "Perry has discussed the song in the past regarding how she sometimes felt suicidal in the wake of her divorce from actor Russell Brand. He may see some ugly backlash due to the context in which it was used at the event."

But the singer is on to more pleasant things. Perry begins an international tour Feb. 16 in Barcelona and is not scheduled to stop until May 14 in Bangkok.
