When Dakota Johnson and Melanie Griffith walked the red carpet at the Oscars together last night, Feb. 22, it was no doubt one of the most special shared moments between the mother and daughter. Johnson has been absolutely everywhere over the last few weeks, thanks to her part in a little film called Fifty Shades of Grey, and she has been praised as one of the high points of the film because of her portrayal of ingenue Anastasia Steele. Griffith has talked about how proud she is of her daughter, but also expressed no desire in seeing the BDSM film, until now.
Reporters asked her about whether or not she has seen Johnson in the film yet and, according to a report by Fox News, the answer was a shaky no.
"I think that would be strange," she said.
Johnson is nude and in several sex scenes in the film, but her daughter was not having it.
"I'm like, you can see it," Johnson said. "It's acting!"
Griffith relented, but maybe just for the cameras: "Well, if my daughter says I should see it, maybe I will."
It is more than a little hard to imagine a mother choosing to watch her daughter's explicit sex scenes play out on the big screen, isn't it? The film enjoyed a second week at the top of the box office even in spite of dropping off more than 70 percent in ticket sales.
