Some of the most famous women from daytime television are about to jump to prime time in a new reality show that is ultimately aimed at bringing fans back to the world of soap operas. Queens of Drama features six powerhouse actresses attempting to work together to launch their own dramatic daytime series. Lindsay Hartley, Crystal Hunt, Vanessa Marcil, Chrystee Pharris and Hunter Tylo are all working together with a bit of extra help from Donna Mills, and even Joan Collins pops up. Basically every daytime series from the past several decades is represented by one of these leading ladies.
According to Paul Adler, senior vice president of programming for Pop, "Queens of Drama features a powerful, all-star cast of soap's leading ladies while tapping into the sensibility of female empowerment, taking charge and having it all. We're excited to give fans a new perspective of these women with a reality series that debuts immediately following Pop's exclusive live broadcast of the Daytime Emmys."
Pop was previously the TV Guide channel, but relaunched in January with new, exclusive programming. Pop is hoping Queens of Drama is enough of a success to establish it as a competitive, new network.
We have also seen other daytime actresses head to prime time reality shows this season, and the response has been great. Lisa Rinna and Eileen Davidson have been welcome additions to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and the ratings have been great.
Queens of Drama will premiere Sunday, April 26, at 10 p.m. ET immediately following the premiere of Pop's live broadcast of the 25th annual Daytime Emmy Awards, and moves to its regular 8 p.m. Wednesday time slot beginning April 29.
