TIDAL knows that it's not looking amazing in the public eye, and after head honcho Jay Z announced an exclusive B-sides concert in New York City and ranted on Twitter about the company, exec Vania Schlogel is speaking out about how much the Spotify competitor pays out to labels and artists and is clarifying that it isn't all just about lining the pockets of Beyoncé, Daft Punk and Jack White.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Schlogel admitted that the young TIDAL company has made a wave of public relations mistakes, including the now infamous 16 superstar strong press conference. Instead of focusing on vague missions of TIDAL, Schlogel now admits they should have rolled out Tidal X, Tidal Rising and Tidal Discovery at the same time. (Those are all programs and events to deliver new music and new artists to TIDAL subscribers and fans.)

"These artists have come on to a platform to bruising criticism that is very unfair and inaccurate," Schlogel said. "Claims in the media that they're just trying to get wealthy - which is counterintuitive because there are much easier ways of being at that stature and monetizing a repertoire - they've done this all around the mission statement of creating a sustainable industry, bringing it back to sustainability."

In his extended Twitter rant, Jay Z made a few unsubstantiated claims, including that TIDAL pays out 75 percent of its revenue to artists - something that Schlogel had to clear up. The actual percent of money going to artists? 12.5 percent. Meanwhile, labels get a 62.5 percent cut of the pie. According to Schlogel, this is above the industry standard, which dishes out 10 percent to artists and 60 to labels.
