The season finale of Adult Swim's China, IL will be both hilarious and depressing, if we're supposed to base our advanced judgement on the fact that Cat Power will guest star as a singing gorilla on June 14. The intelligent ape will sing the original song "I'm Starting To Lose Hope Again."
Why the depressing number?
"Well, for one she was bread in captivity and has never been free," said creator and songwriter Brad Neely. "Now she finds herself in a school where The Dean is turning living animals into fuel, skipping the 'fossil part.' She has never fully lived and soon her life will be over. We based her character, and speaking device off the gorilla in Congo."
If you've never taken the time to check out Adult Swim's absurdist lineup, understand that this plot-line is pretty typical for an episode of China, based on the "worst college in America." The aforementioned Dean is voiced by Hulk Hogan at his least subtle, and Jeffrey Tambor will also make an appearance in the hour-long episode in his recurring role as the campus scientist.
Original songs are a part of many of the network's programs, from the frequent Bob's Burgers credit scene shifts to the the hilarious musician cameos within the Squidbillies universe.
