Demi Lovato will not take your criticism of her Cosmopolitan cover. After some critics of the oft-controversial magazine want to put issues behind paper bags and some fans accused her of being too sexy on the cover, the "Cool for the Summer" defended posing for the September issue, saying that she's never felt more confident and wanted to show that off.

In a lengthy message on her Instagram, the 23-year-old pop star opened up about finding comfort in her own form and showing that off on Cosmopolitan. Lovato insists she doesn't feel exploited in the steamy cover shoot but empowered. Captioned with the simple hashtag "#unwrapmycosmo," Lovato said that posing for the camera made her "feel incredibly EMPOWERED and the MOST BEAUTIFUL I've ever felt."

"It's so liberating to be able to show the world how confident a woman can be once she learns to love herself. It took soul searching and a bit of time before I learned to embrace my body therefore I could not have been more excited to do this shoot," she wrote.

Lovato has been very open about her body and sexuality lately, posting on Instagram that her boyfriend Wilmer Valderamma helped her to "love her curves."

Lovato's music is also taking a turn for the sexy. Leading up to the release of her new album and following the release of the hot single "Cool for the Summer," Lovato admitted that she's ready to get down and dirty.

"There's a side of [me] that people don't get to see with my past music, but it's been there," Lovato said in an interview with Ryan Seacrest about her new album. "It's totally been there. And like hey, just because I'm sober doesn't mean that I'm judging anybody else for their stuff. And also, it also doesn't mean I didn't have a damn good time back then either. I'm having a good time sober - a better time for sure."
