5 Seconds of Summer continues to roll out new music from its forthcoming sophomore album Sounds Good Feels Good. On Thursday (Aug. 27), 5SOS released the emotional guitar ballad "Jet Black Heart" for fans who have pre-ordered the follow-up to 5SOS' self-titled debut. And of course, it followed that the new promo single arrived online shortly thereafter.

"Jet Black Heart" establishes a sense of maturity on Sounds Good Feels Good, which has previously been promoted with the jangly lead single "She's Kinda Hot" and the first promo track "Fly Away." Pulling from the emotional side of the pop-punk genre, "Jet Black Heart" features a chorus of guitars and smashed drums, which blend together with emotional lyrics to create a song that sounds not unlike Yellowcard's "Only One."

Lyrically, however, "Jet Black Heart" couldn't be more different from "Only One." The song continues the band's new tendency toward introspective lyrics, as they sing about being cold and broken but still feeling in love despite emotional turmoil.

Cause I've got a jet black heart / And there's a hurricane underneath it / Trying to keep us apart / I write with a poison pen / But these chemicals moving between us / Are the reasons to start again," 5SOS sings in the song's booming chorus.

"Jet Black Heart" is the latest single to be heard from 5 Seconds of Summer's new album Sounds Good Feels Good following the release of "She's Kinda Hot" and "Fly Away." 5SOS has also debuted the album track "Permanent Vacation" live.

Sounds Good Feels Good will be released on Oct. 23.
