5 Seconds of Summer's new single "She's Kinda Hot" may sound a little familiar to fans of pop-punk. After the lead single from the band's new album Sounds Good Feels Good was released earlier this month, fans of 5SOS and My Chemical Romance were quick to point out the track's similarity to the 2007 The Black Parade single "Teenagers." And now, 5 Seconds of Summer has explained why.

In an interview with Billboard at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards, 5 Seconds of Summer member Michael Clifford explained that similar song structure and key may be why some fans liken "She's Kinda Hot" to "Teenagers."

"That's just because of the 12-bar blues," Clifford said, denying that they ripped MCR off. "I think it might be in the same key as well."

Clifford also expressed frustration in the sound that fans do and do not want from 5 Seconds of Summer.

"People were like, 'You guys should sound more like My Chemical Romance.' Then we do sound like My Chemical Romance and people are like, 'Why the f*ck do you sound like My Chemical Romance?' Ugh!" he said.

The songs both share a similar ebb and flow. Compare them below:

"She's Kinda Hot" is the lead single from 5 Seconds of Summer's sophomore album Sounds Good Feels Good, which is due for release on Oct. 23. Ahead of the album's release, 5SOS have also rolled out "Fly Away" with iTunes pre-orders and debuted the track "Permanent Vacation" live.

Meanwhile, My Chemical Romance called it quits in 2013.
