When Queens of the Stone Age frontman, Josh Homme, announced on his appearance for Beats 1 that the band had a surprise performance in Los Angeles just 24 hours away, speculation of new music began to rise.

Unfortunately, last nights set dashed those hopes, at least for now. The stoner-rock band played a vicious 17-song set at L.A.'s Teragram Ballroom, drawing from its entire catalog.

It was quite the star-studded event as celebrities including Arctic Monkey's frontman Alex Turner, former Queens of the Stone Age bassist Nick Oliveri and Parts Unknown host Anthony Bourdain were spotted in attendance. Comedian Bill Burr opened the night with his brand of raunchy comedy.

Consequence of Sound points out that the surprise performance likely served as a warmup for the Queens of the Stone Age upcoming slot on Rock in Rio later this month.

Homme has most recently been active with his side project, Eagles of Death Metal, who are set to come out with their rock 'n' roll record, Zipper Down, on October 2. Homme typically does not join the band on tour and prefers to work exclusively on the recorded material, so you'll likely have to catch him live with QOTSA if you want to see the hard rock guitarist in action.
