Lady Gaga presented at the 2015 Emmys last night (Sept. 20) held at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles and showed off her jazzy side onstage in a gown from Brandon Maxwell's debut fashion collection. It was her first time presenting at the awards ceremony, and in a surprise twist, the star went classic and understated instead of one of her more controversial Video Music Awards outfits of the past, in step with her more recent album collaborations with Tony Bennett.

She'd already created quite a stir on the red carpet earlier in the night and according to People Style, her stylist Maxwell asserted that her inspiration was retro movie-star Grace Kelly.

Maxwell captioned his Instagram post of the night with, "Here we have my friend, my must, my Grace Kelly @ladygaga wearing #brandonmaxwell SS 16 and @lorraineschwartz at the Primetime Emmy Awards. You look beautiful, you smart, talented woman."

The classically attired star took the stage and simply said, "Although I love toasting to women, tonight I'm here for the men," jesting with her audience before she announced the nominees for lead actor in a limited series or movie. Richard Jenkins won the award for his turn in Olive Kitteridge, as reported by Billboard.

Award winner Jenkins was clearly in shock as he took the stage, over both his win and who exactly presented the trophy to him. "That was Lady Gaga," he said, apparently dumbfounded, and then joked "So Dad, what did you do last night?"

Lady Gaga has certainly been busy as of late and her appearance at the Emmys comes on the heels of her campus sexual assault themed music video "Til It Happens To You," directed by Catherine Hardwicke. She is also making her television debut in the next season of American Horror Story: Hotel so it's fitting that she picked this moment in her career to present for the awards ceremony.
