Thundercat, Flying Lotus and Shabazz Palaces have formed a new supergroup called WOKE. The four artists have released their first single "The Lavishments of Light Looking" with the help of a special funk legend George Clinton as part of the Adult Swim Singles series.

The track brings the best of everything from Steven Ellison's producing ability, Stephen Bruner's ability to craft a funky bass line and the soul that Ishmael Butler and Tendai Maraire of Shabazz Palaces bring to the table. There is the spacey-lo-fi electronic sounds that have become part of the FlyLo sound mixed in with some blissful funk from Palaces and Thundercat, while Clinton comes in to encourage the listeners to lose their mind and dance.

Flying Lotus, Thundercat and Shabazz Palaces have managed to keep WOKE under wraps until now. They have not revealed further plans for the group that could include more singles, shows or even an album, but if there are any more songs like "Lavishments of Light Looking," the clamor will be loud for much more music from WOKE.

Flying Lotus and Thundercat have been frequent collaborators over the past several years. Thundercat released a six-track project The Beyond / Where the Giants Roam in June that was co-produced by Flying Lotus. The three artists have been working together in some capacity and fly in similar, forward thinking lanes, so this collaboration makes a lot of sense. Could we see a Kendrick Lamar feature in the future?
