Having dabbled in the both the acting and music world, Selena Gomez is ready to make her return to the small(er) screen. The former Disney Channel star has been given a straight-to-series pickup by Netflix for an adaptation of best-selling young adult novel 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher. The upcoming series was picked up for a total for thirteen episodes, crafted and penned by Pulitzer Prize-winner Brian Yorkey.

Before residing with Netflix, Universal made the first bite for 13 Reasons Why back in 2012, hoping Gomez would star in the venture and rehash her acting skills from Wizards of Waverly Place and Spring Breakers. To the surprise of many, it's not Gomez's first time in the executive producer chair. In 2013, she was listed as an executive producer for TV movie, The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex, DailyMail notes.

The novel focuses on an introverted student in California who finds a box filled with cassette tapes at the foot of his front steps. The tapes were recorded by a classmate who he once had feelings before prior to her suicide, Hannah Baker. Each tape is recorded with chain-letter inspired instructions in order for 13 people to realize how they played a part in her eventual death, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Aside from her breakout Disney role and her Spring Breakers role alongside James Franco, the "Good For You" singer has taken part in Hotel Transylvania and signed on to appear in the forthcoming Neighbors 2 alongside Zac Efron and Seth Rogen. Gomez's latest solo album, Revival, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart. The 23-year-old recently divulged that she'll launch a Revival supporting tour on May 9, 2016, starting in Las Vegas and rounding out a total of 40 gigs. The "Same Old Love" singer is slated to command the stage at next month's American Music Awards as well as the Victoria's Secret Fashion show.
