Fox hit show Empire may have some competition around the corner from Timbaland and La La Anthony. The two are set to partner with Leftfield Entertainment for a real life hip-hop docuseries in the vein of Empire. Anthony will be named executive producer with CEO David George, Will Nothacker and Derek Gordon of Leftfield Entertainment, while Timbaland will be executive producer of music on the show.

Anthony recently told Billboard, “I’m thrilled to be executive producing a project that offers a true insider’s look into the business side of hip-hop, especially one that explores the lives of fascinating women who have used hip-hop as their platform to become successful entrepreneurs in fashion, music and more.”

Timbaland also said to the publication, “I’m excited to continue to build my brand within the TV space. Projects like this, with music and culture at the center, are the sweet spot of my content play… let’s go!”

Their is currently no network for the project, but Leftfield Entertainment is shooting high for the docuseries. The Fox show Empire has spawned a sea of copycat productions, including Growing Up Hip Hop on WeTV, which features the children of Pepa (from Salt n’ Pepa) and Jam Master Jay’s son amongst others.

“La La and Timbaland are perfect examples of what can be achieved when talent, determination and creativity collide with entrepreneurship,” David George added. “We’re thrilled to be in a business with these two entertainment innovators to create a series that uncovers a unique, rarified faction of hip-hop and provides a true soundtrack for the unpredictable journey toward fame and fortune.”

Both Anthony and Timbaland have also had a long road to fame and fortune, as Anthony started as a VJ on MTV, then going behind the camera on various projects, including a co-producer position for the Broadway show Eclipsed. Timbaland is no stranger to Empire and appeared on the show as himself, as well as serving as executive producer on the Aaliyah movie made for Lifetime TV.

Timbaland also recently released a surprise track from Aaliyah, “Shakin’,” on his last mixtape King Stays King. The duet was produced by Timbaland himself and was shared through his personal twitter with a link and a sentimental message to the late singer, “Aaliyah… This is for you baby.” Before her death in 2002, she and Timbaland also collaborated on hits “Try Again,” “I Am Music” and “Are You That Somebody?
