In lieu of backing his own daughter, Mitch Winehouse is backing Adele for Best Female Solo Artist at the Brit Awards this year. Winehouse reportedly is against Amy winning a posthumous Brit Award at the awards ceremony tonight (Feb. 24). There is a possibility that the late singer may be recognized for her contributions to the soundtrack on the documentary film Amy, which was released last year.

Winehouse died in July 2011, but is still being recognized for awards a full five years after her death.

Earlier today, Mitch spoke about her nomination for the Amy soundtrack on This Morning with Philip & Holly as reported by NME, saying, “At least she’s being nominated for her music, for the soundtrack from the film, so that’s quite positive and it just shows you Amy’s still up for awards five years after her passing.”

He also revealed that he is a staunch supporter of Adele for Best Female Artist this year, and that he feels Amy’s nomination was only because of the film. While Mitch wants Adele to win, he did express his happiness over his late daughter still being nominated for awards.

“Yeah, because it’s as a result of the film, the soundtrack of the film,” he further said. “You know really Adele should win it hands down shouldn’t she? But I’m not sure how people win the Brit awards I don’t know if it’s on number of albums sold, I haven’t got a clue.”

Winehouse has made no secret of that he is against the film Amy, which he claims portrays his daughter in a negative light. He claims that her boyfriend towards the end of her life, Reg Traviss, was a large part of keeping her off drugs and that she did not, in fact, die of an overdose.

Mitch is so against the film that he has begun working on his own project about his late daughter called Letter To Amy. He first revealed that he was creating his own project about his daughter to Bang Showbiz this past October, according to MSN. He also revealed that Amy is still very much a part of his life, as is her former boyfriend, Reg Traviss, and her close friends. According to Mitch, they all gather at least once a month to share their favorite stories about Amy.
