Donald Glover has been a busy man with his acting career, most recently directing, producing and starring in the hit new series Atlanta. But he has not forgotten his music career as Childish Gambino and is ready to release a new album Awaken, My Love! To get fans ready for the LP, he has unveiled a bold new single "Me and Your Mama."
There has been speculation and rumors about a new album from Gambino for a long time, but it started to ramp up on Wednesday. He confirmed it last night by revealing the artwork and title on Twitter and then shared the tracklist and release date today, along with the new single after a premiere on Beats 1.
"Me and Your Mama" starts out with two minutes of a slow, brooding instrumental and repetitive chants in the background. Then an electric guitar immediately cuts through the noise as the song completely takes a 180-degree turn. Gambino really goes for it on this record with a bluesy, raspy voice as he sings about loving a woman who won't seem to love him back
"You know that I love you / So let me into your heart / Let me into your heart / Do you really love me?" asks Glover in the verse. The song has a very soulful and bluesy feel to it that stirs the emotion Gambino is trying to convey with his lyrics.
