Ed Sheeran accepts his Song of the Year recognition at this year's iHeartRadio Music Awards in an unconventional way.

Sheeran received the award on Sunday night. The award-winning singer was in Melbourne, Australia when he learned that he won the award for this hit song "Shape of You."

Instead of giving a speech, Sheeran treated his fans to a live performance of his other hit song "Perfect."

"They set up so I can play, so I'm gonna play a song for you now if that's alright," said Sheeran before he sang.

Ed Sheeran's 'Secret' Show In Melbourne

During his performance, Sheeran was surrounded by a massive group of fans. They also sang along with their idol.

The singer was in Melbourne for a "secret" show in Hosier Lane. Fans learned that Sheeran will be performing on Sunday morning after a text from an unknown source went viral.

Fans of Sheeran flocked the venue, and they were delighted to know that the text was accurate. Sheeran only sang "Perfect" for his fans at the time, which is featured on the singer's Divide album.

Ed Sheeran's Grammy Snub

Last year, the English singer-songwriter also made headlines after he was snubbed at the Grammy Awards. During his appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Sheeran said that he did not really mind not getting an award at the Grammys.

"You know I'm not dying, it's not like I'm never gonna be nominated for a Grammy again. And I was nominated for two Grammys. This is why everything's meant to be. The week after that, I get an MBE from the palace, I go No. 1 on Spotify, I go No. 1 on Billboard, I'm about to have my second ever Billboard No. 1, like there's so many things in the mix that counterbalance it," said Sheeran.

He also said that he is a firm believer that when one door closes, another one opens.
