It is time for Jennifer Lopez to surrender her badge. The singer/actress's police drama, Shades of Blue, was canceled by NBC after three seasons.

The television series follows Harlee Santos (Lopez), a mother and a detective from New York. Ray Liotta also stars as Lt. Matt Wozniak, the precinct boss who often leads her and the rest of his team of detectives to step outside of the law.

Shades of Blue's upcoming third season, which will premiere on June 17, will be the series's last.

Saying Goodbye

"I have enjoyed producing and starring in this beautifully complicated world and playing such an empowering yet flawed character — a woman, a detective, but, first and foremost, a mother," Lopez said. "Now looking at it with a little distance, playing Harlee strengthened me and helped me grow into a more self-assured woman. It's crazy how some parts permeate your soul and change you forever and for that I am grateful."

The actress added that the final episode will not disappoint viewers who followed the story of Harley and Lt. Wozniak from the beginning. Lopez teased a "poetic" arc on where the characters, especially Harlee, are heading.

"This is one of our flagship shows and we're excited to share the final chapter with viewers who will be on the edge of their seats discovering how Harlee's story concludes," stated Pearlena Igbokwe of Universal Television.

The police drama also stars Drea de Matteo, Warren Kole, Dayo Okeniyi, Hampton Fluker, Vincent Laresca, Sarah Jeffrey, and more.

Season 2 of the television series received an average of 0.76 rating from the 18-49 demographics with 4.303 million viewers per episode. The numbers were down compared to Season 1 which recorded 1.17 rating from the same demographic and 5.785 million viewers, according to Nielsen (via TV Series Finale).

The mom of two also previously appeared as a guest star on NBC's Will & Grace

Shades Of Blue Season 3 Spoilers

The final chapter of the story of Harlee and Lt. Wozniak is sure to keep viewers at the edge of their seat until the very last moment.

Last year, reports claimed that there will be a major character death that will surely change Harlee. Lopez was spotted in a location in Brooklyn filming a devastating scene wherein her onscreen boyfriend, James Nava (Gino Anthony Pesi) falls to the ground.

Police extras were also present as Harlee bursts into the crime scene and hold her dying lover. Later on, Lopez and Liotta were seen filming a funeral scene.

In addition, Deadline confirmed that Bruce McGill (from Rizzoli & Isles on TNT) will appear as Jordan Ramsey, a man who runs a unit outside of the Intelligence Division, in the upcoming season of Shades of Blue.
