Singer-actress Selena Gomez does not only produce but also contribute new original music for Season 2 of Netflix's 13 Reasons Why.

On Thursday, May 10, the 25-year-old released the lyric video for the song "Back To You" ahead of the premiere of the teen drama about suicide.

A Song About Healing

The three-minute-and-30-second track features a footage from the upcoming season due to premiere this year. The lyric video showed Clay Jensen, played by Dylan Minnette, continuing to grasp the death and the revelations, which the 13 tapes revealed about Hannah Baker's rape and suicide.

From the looks of it, the tapes did not alleviate his conscience from her unfortunate death. Clay is still haunted by his guilt and his memories of Hannah.

The video also shows the new characters and how the rest of the school is coping after the tapes' explosive revelations.

"We never got it right/ Playing and replaying old conversations/ Overthinking every word and I hate it," Gomez sings. "'Cause it's not me/ And what's the point in hiding?/ Everybody knows we got unfinished business/ And I'll regret it if I didn't say."

The song is perfect for the story of Clay and Hannah, the central characters of the teen drama. In Season 1, viewers discovered that Clay was in love with Hannah, but they never really got to be together because of her circumstances.

"With this song, it's a very special record," Gomez explained in an interview with Beats 1. "I want it to be a beautiful message in a really complicated way but really fun. But that I think 'Back To Yoy' was more of my special project that I wanted to give to Season 2."

Is 'Back To You' About Justin Bieber?

Apart from the story of Clay and Hannah, fans believe that "Back To You" is also about Gomez's ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber. Last year, shortly after breaking up with The Weeknd, the former Disney child actress reunited with the Canadian pop star.

For a while, the two seemed to be together for good. They went on cute romantic dates and even went to church together despite objections from her family and friends.

However, after a couple of months, they once again parted ways. They did not say why, but Gomez was next seen having vacations with her female friends while Bieber got close to a model named Baskin Champion.

Still, Jelena fans are holding up hope that the two will eventually find their way back to each other's arms.

Genius has revealed possible references of the song to the romance and breakup between the on-again-off-again couple.

The chorus, for example, can be interpreted as Gomez who never really got over Bieber. The two started dating back when they were teenagers and, over the years, have broken up only to reunite again shortly after.

"You could break my heart in two/ But when it heals, it beats for you/ I know it's forward but it's true," she sang. "I wanna hold you when I'm not supposed to/ When I'm layin close to someone else."

It can be interpreted as Gomez yearning for Bieber while she was with The Weeknd. The Weeknd, too, has written about his time with Gomez whom he said used her as a "pit stop" until she makes up her mind.
