The Weekend has already dropped the teaser for his "Hollywood's sleaziest love story" entitled "The Idol." This features Johnny Depp's daughter, Lily-Rose Depp in an interesting but "unrelatable" character.

In the teaser, Depp can be seen taking on the role of the pop singer Jocelyn, whose music career is only starting to bloom. She crosses paths with The Weeknd's character. From there, the situation becomes further convoluted. There is a romance between Jocelyn and The Weeknd's mysterious and strong persona, but it is not a love story for the ages.

"Why don't you just be yourself?" The Weeknd's character asks Jocelyn during a tense dinner scene. She replies, "Because there's nothing about me that's relatable." The teaser trailer ends with The Weeknd asking Jocelyn during a particularly heated moment, "Do you trust me?" She whispers back, "Not really."

Alongside The Weeknd and Lily, series regulars Troye Sivan, Debby Ryan, and Steve Zissis also star in the episode. Melanie Liburd, Tunde Adebimpe, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, Nico Hiraga, and Anne Heche are recurring cast members. Jennie of BLACKPINK will also appear in the series

"The Idol" is The Weeknd's first recurring role on a television series. He appeared as himself in the film Uncut Gems. The artist is well known for his song videos of cinematic quality. The Idol will provide a significant opportunity to observe The Weeknd's acting abilities.

The Weeknd announced he would be revealing the first trailer on July 16 via Twitter. "I'M SHOWING SOMETHING SPECIAL FOR YOU TONIGHT RIGHT BEFORE I GO ON ! METLIFE BABY !" the singer wrote. July 16 marked the first show of the "Blinding Lights" singer's After Hours Til Dawn tour.

The series was developed in collaboration by The Weeknd, Reza Fahim, and Sam Levinson. Sam is well-known for developing the successful HBO series Euphoria, which received 16 Emmy nominations only days before the launch of the Idol trailer.

According to HBO Max, The Idol is "set against the backdrop of the music industry, centers on a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult, who develops a complicated relationship with an up-and-coming pop idol." The Idol is "coming soon" to HBO Max.
