Netflix is suing the singers of the "Unofficial Bridgerton Musical" after performing the songs from the hit show in an unauthorized concert in New York City days ago.

Earlier this week, Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear performed their GRAMMY-Winning album at the Kennedy Center in New York City.

Barlow and Bear clinched the Best Musical Theatre Album on the 2022 GRAMMY Awards, making them the youngest artists to be awarded on the coveted category.

Netflix Sues Bridgerton Musical Singers Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear

According to Billboard Pro, Netflix served a whopping lawsuit to Abigail Barlow & Emily Bear, the creators of the "Unofficial Bridgerton Musical" album.

Netflix is accusing the duo of "blatant infringement" of the company's rights to the hit-Netflix period drama.

The prominent streaming service filed the new complaint in a federal court in Washington DC.

Per the Netflix lawsuit, Barlow & Bear piggybacked on the artists behind Bridgerton - their creative work, and success - all while using the company's rights, without permission in order to create a brand around themselves.

"Netflix owns the exclusive right to create Bridgerton songs, musicals, or any other derivative works based on Bridgerton," the company wrote. "Barlow & Bear cannot take that right-made valuable by others' hard work-for themselves, without permission. Yet that is exactly what they have done," the lawsuit reads.

Apparently, the lawsuit was the breaking point for Netflix as Barlow & Bear has repeatedly disobeyed the clauses of their contract.

When the duo released the songs on TikTok, which generated a huge bunch of buzz for the show, and the songs. Netflix did not sanction the duo for doing this despite the former declaring that these are unauthorized.

"Despite their assurances to the contrary, Barlow & Bear are now claiming carte blanche authorization to profit from Netflix's protected intellectual property in whatever way they see fit," Netflix pointed out.

TMZ, who has also reported the story, reveals that Barlow & Bear even used "substantial dialogue verbatim" from Bridgerton and plans to sell merchandise as they plan to perform the music on the road.

Barlow & Bear will be bringing The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical on Sep. 20, 2022, at the Royal Albert Hall in London with the BBC Concert Orchestra and other special guests.
