Since Young Thug, Gunna, and the YSL Records' massive indictment and arrest last May, the hip-hop community has been on the lookout for gang-related incidents and links, fearing that they would be next in line.

For hip-hop enthusiast and internet personality DJ Akademiks, he believes that the current state of Hip-hop in the United States is at a "cleansing" stage.

This is because the number of rappers being indicted, prosecuted, and sometimes convicted who used their song lyrics as evidence against them has risen dramatically over the year.

The best example of this encounter is Gunna and Young Thug's indictment. Along with 26 other Young Slime Life Records associates, Gunna and Thugger were served with a grand-jury indictment, accusing them of conspiring to commit RICO in Atlanta, Georgia, where the action is illegal.

Because of their song, "Slatty," the two chart-topping rappers were indicted because the prosecution used their song lyrics to exhibit their guilt in committing such state laws.

DJ Akademiks Speak Out Against RICO Cases

Sitting with VLAD TV, hip-hop socialite DJ Akademiks gave his two cents on the current state of hip-hop in the nation.

According to Ak, Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) cases are being thrown at rappers who the prosecution thinks have a link on the inside. (via HiphopDX)

"I think rap is going through a cleansing right now," he explained. "As I said, all these D.A.'s are following each other. We know so and so is beefing with so and so, like two gangs. If you are in these gangs, you better stop and if you around these gangs, you better get the hell away from them. Indictments are coming," he told VLAD in the interview.

Last July, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said that two more RICO cases would be served by the end of the summer of 2022. Hip-hop fans have quickly turned to Lil Baby to check on him.

Lil Baby denied the allegations at the time.

So far, Gunna and Young Thug's indictment proved to be the biggest "music lyrics" arrest involving RICO, and the hip-hop community has faced it recently.

Gunna and Young Thug and other associates of the YSL Records were denied bond release and are awaiting trial in 2023.
