Rock and Roll pioneer Jerry Lee Lewis reportedly passed away very recently at the age of 87.

The icon's publicist has confirmed the unfortunate news to Rolling Stone.

However, as of this writing, Jerry Lee Lewis' cause of death has not yet been revealed. It is expected that in the coming days and the coming weeks, a full detailed explanation of what caused the musician's death will be given out to the media either by the family or the authorities.

Earlier this week, TMZ initially broke the news of Lewis' death. However, it was recanted immediately after a representative from the musician confirmed that he is, in fact, among the living.

CNN says that the media outlet, among the other news publications that reported the same stories, retracted their respective articles.

"He's alive. TMZ reported erroneously off of an anonymous tip," Lewis' representative said at the time.

Now, on Oct. 28, 2022, Jerry Lee Lewis' death has been confirmed. He was reported to have passed away at his home in Desoto County, Mississippi, accompanied by his seventh wife, Judith Coghlan.

Jerry Lee Lewis was an icon among the many trailblazers of the rock n' roll genre in the 1950s. He was widely regarded as Elvis Presley's first music rival - and was among the generation of performers in the ranks of Little Richard and Chuck Berry.

Thanks to his 1957 hit "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On," Lewis was catapulted to worldwide fame. He followed up with a slew of now-classic hits like "Breathless," "Great Balls of Fire," and High School Confidential."

But his music career met its huge turning point when he eventually wed Myra Gale Brown, his 13-year-old cousin when he was 22 years old. The scandalous revelation of his marriage to a younger woman, who is also his relative, had sparked an uproar, causing his rock and roll career to go down the drain.

After a few months of staying under the radar, he eventually ventured into country music, where he slowly gained his then-promising career.

In total, Jerry Lee Lewis has released 40 studio albums, four live albums, and ten compilations. Many have regarded him as one of the greatest and most influential pianists of the rock and roll era, and he was listed No. 24 in Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Artists of All Time."
