Slaves have been on hiatus for the past four years that's why fans were excited when the duo announced that they would be coming back with new music soon. However, they also revealed that there will be a big change regarding their name.

According to the New York Post, the UK punk rock group has been using their original name since their formation in 2012 but many have criticized them for its historical connotations over the years.

They are now performing under the name Soft Play and the duo, consisting of Laurie Vincent and Isaac Holman, issued a statement to explain the big career move.

Taking to their newly-named Instagram account, the duo began by explaining that they haven't been able to comment regarding their recent plans as there have been many things going on with their individual lives after deciding to take a break from music.

There was a moment in their careers when they thought they won't be able to perform in front of fans again.

Luckily for fans, they feel like now is the right time "to pick up where we left off" but before doing that, they need to address something important.

Soft Play Explains Why They Changed Band's Name

Explaining the origin of their original name Slaves, the duo said they intended to reference the grind and hard work of people every day.

During their early years, the two admitted that they responded to the backlash in the form of "fear and defensiveness" as well as their pride.

"It felt at times as if our band name had defined us and we were scared of what might happen if we change it," they added.

They ultimately decided to change it because they recognize that the word Slaves is indeed an issue and they wanted to improve themselves. Soft Play went on to apologize to everyone they have offended over the years.

The duo is aware that fans have different takes when it comes to their name, but they are hoping for the public to accept their decision and "not continue the argument between yourselves."

Concluding their announcement, the band noted that they were excited to be reunited again and couldn't wait for "what the future holds."

As of this writing, the band has not officially announced when they will release new music.
