Phoebe Bridgers is one of the biggest players in the indie pop music scene.

Her Grammy-nominated song "Kyoto" has made her one of the biggest rising artists in the genre and in the music industry in general. Last year, she was included on Taylor Swift's career-spanning "The Eras" Tour as one of her guests acts on the North American tour.

Last year also marked her huge win on the $3.8 million defamation lawsuit filed against her by a recording studio owner he said to have been a sexual abuser.

"We feel vindicated that the court recognized this lawsuit as frivolous and without merit. It was not grounded in law or facts, but was filed with the sole intention of causing harm to our client's reputation and career," Bridger said in a statement.

While her huge victory last year marked a period of happiness for the "Ghost in the Machine" singer, it seemed like the arrival of the new year was not going in her favor.

According to Rolling Stone, Phoebe Bridger's father passed away recently.

In an Instagram post, Bridgers posted an old photo of him and her father. In the past, Phoebe Bridgers' relationship with her father is not a good one. She told GQ Magazine that her father was involved in a "drug thing" when she was growing up.

When Amelia Dimoldenberg mentioned the bothering lyric in "Kyoto" to Bridgers at the "Chicken Shop Date," she firmly shrugged off after being asked if the lyrics still hold up until now.

"I'm gonna kill you/If you don't beat me to it," she sang, a reference to her relationship with her father.

In a 2020 interview with The New Yorker, Bridgers also spoke more about his relationship with her father, who has introduced her to music at the same time.

"He was pretty sensitive about money, and he didn't love it when I was taking guitar lessons. But, as far as music goes, he's the one who listened to Tom Waits; he's the one who listened to Jackson Browne," she revealed.

To contextualize her strained relationship more, Bridgers confessed that she felt "so much f---king empathy and so much f---king anger" toward him - saying that their day-to-day vibe was like: "Are we talking, are we not talking? What's the vibe?"

As of this writing, Bridgers has not yet disclosed any more information about her father's passing.
