The disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly was hit with multiple sexual assault and abuse charges in several different states throughout the years-some of which he was convicted and sentenced to.

Recent reports say that the Cook County state's attorney Kim Foxx has announced that her office will be dropping the pending sexual assault and abuse cases against the convicted felon.

"Mr. Kelly is potentially looking at a possibility of never walking out of prison again for the crimes that he's committed," Foxx said

"This office, in the pursuit of justice for the victims in our indictment as well as those across the country, worked tirelessly to get us to this point.

"While today's cases are no longer being pursued, we believe that justice has been served and the sentences that have already been handed down to Mr. Kelly, as well as the sentence that will come down next month."

Foxx cited several other cases filed against Kelly that pushed through and resulted in convictions, like his racketeering and sex trafficking case in Brooklyn, as well as other federal charges in Chicago, Pitchfork reported.

She acknowledged that dropping the cases would be disappointing for Kelly's victims, but noted: "We have a significant number of cases and survivors who are equally in need of the resources that have been expended on Mr. Kelly's cases."

According to Axios, the indictments in Cook County were filed against Kelly back in February 2019, but were overshadowed by his cases in Brooklyn and Chicago.

In addition to those, Kelly is also facing a sexual-misconduct case in Hennepin County following solicitation charges.

The State attorney also acknowledged that the singer is facing 30 years in prison, but can still be released; however, she noted that Kelly is awaiting a sentence for another case next month, and hopes that that will convict him.

Prior to dropping the indictments, Foxx reportedly spoke with four of Kelly's alleged victims and declared that she is confident that her office would secure convictions.

"We brought the charges believing that we had sufficient evidence to support findings of guilt in the court of law. That's why we brought them," she said.

Kelly's next appearance in court is in Chicago. He will be sentenced for child pornography and the enticement of a child.
