Meg White has been strangled by controversy recently, with musicians defending her in honor - it seemed like the best person to defend her just arrived on time.

Even before, White has been criticized for her drum playing, but very recently, the conversation about her capabilities was revived.

Meg White Drumming Issue 2023

"The tragedy of The White Stripes is how great they would have been with a half decent drummer," Journalist Lachlan Markay said in a now-deleted tweet. "Yeah, yeah I've heard all the 'but it's a carefully crafted sound mannnn!' takes. I'm sorry Meg White was terrible and no band is better for having shitty percussion."

Since then, Mackay has taken down the tweet after he received a huge amount of backlash following his unprovoked take on the drummer's abilities. (via NME)

He has also apologized on Twitter. However, as of this writing, his account was already set to private. Check out his apology below:

"By now you've probably seen an ill-advised (and since-deleted) tweet I sent out yesterday about the White Stripes and Meg White. It was an over-the-top take on TWS and White as a drummer, and was, let's face it, just truly awful in every way. Petty, obnoxious, just plain wrong," he explained.

Jack White Defends Meg White

Meg White's ex-husband Jack White came to her defense after musicians also teamed up to praise Meg's abilities.

The two composed the now-disbanded Alternative rock band The White Stripes.

In a rousing poem, Jack defended his ex-wife.

"to have bliss upon bliss upon bliss, to be without fear, negativity or pain, and to get up every morning, and be happy to do it all again," he wrote.

The Stripes is the recipient of four Gramophones, including three Grammy Awards for Best Alternative Music Album and one Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

However, the band disbanded in 2011. At the time, no specific reasons were cited, except for a "myriad of reasons" mostly given to preserving what is "beautiful and special about the band."

Jack's ex-wife, Karen Elson, also came to the defense of Meg, saying that Jack had previously admitted that The White Stripes would be nothing without her.

Since the band split, Meg has been under the radar, with reports attributing it to her acute anxiety.
