Sam Smith is in the middle of their "Gloria" tour, but was forced to cancel two consecutive shows due to an important matter; what happened to the singer?

According to Billboard, the musician, who identifies as non-binary and uses "they/them" pronouns, canceled their show at the Birmingham Resort World Arena in Birmingham which was originally scheduled on April 25. Fans who already purchased tickets will still be able to attend on a different date, which will be on May 27.

On the other hand, their OVO Hydro show in Glasgow, scheduled for April 21, was also canceled and rescheduled for May 25, 2023.

In a statement posted on their official Facebook account, Sam Smith revealed that they and their team were "hit with a virus" which made them "really unwell."

The reason why they had to cancel was they wanted to give fans the "best version of Gloria the tour" and it's impossible for them to perform due to their medical condition.

As of this writing, Sam Smith has not specified what type of illness they and their team experienced.

The "Unholy" singer's next scheduled show will be at the Royal Arena in København S on April 29, 2023. It appears that the concert will push through as their team has yet to release an announcement about the concert.

The singer is currently traveling in cities around the world for their "Gloria" tour which features songs from their recent album of the same name.

In early reports, Capitol Records described the album as an "emotional, sexual, and spiritual liberation." Smith recorded the album in Jamaica, Los Angeles, and London.

From the Academy Award-winning singer's perspective, they felt this was the first album they sang freely. In addition to being a personal project, they also explored their creative side as a celebrated artist in the music industry.

From sex, imperfection, to passion, contemporary narratives, and more, "Gloria" tackled different topics, which were completely different from his previous releases that mainly revolved around the topic of romance.

"I am giving you part of my heart and soul. Gloria got me through some dark times and was a beacon for me in my life," they wrote in the announcement on Instagram last year.
