Not more than weeks since Post Malone became the first artist in music history to have eight Diamond certified singles by the Recording Industry Association of America, Posty is being awarded yet another high honor again.
This time, the Songwriters Hall of Fame would be bestowing one of the highest honors they could ever give an artist - the Hal David Starlight Award!
What is the Hal David Starlight Award?
According to the award's brief found online, the Hal David Starlight Award, or the Starlight Award, was first presented in 2004 and renamed to a lengthier version in 20006. It was made to honor the Songwriters Hall of Fame Chairman's longtime support for young songwriters like Post Malone.
More so, the award has been gifted to songwriters at the peak of their careers who have made significant strides in the music industry with their originally written songs.
Rob Thomas was the first award recipient in 2004, with Alicia Keys, John Mayer, and John Legend receiving it the years after.
John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls took home his in 2008, followed by Jason Mraz, Taylor Swift, Drake, Ne-Yo, even Benny Blanco, Dan Reynolds, Nate Reuss, and Nick Jonas.
In 2015, Ed Sheeran received his Starlight, with Sara Bareilles getting hers before Halsey and Lil Nas X. Post Malone follows the "Montero" rapper after the Songwriters Hall of Fame pauses in 2020 and 2021.

Post Malon Receives Hal David Starlight Award
According to Songwriters Hall of Fame Chairman Nile Rodgers, he enjoyed watching the "Circles" hitmaker become one of the biggest artists worldwide. He noted that he had done it by writing "phenomenal songs." (via AllHipHop)
"Way before Post Malone was a superstar, he was a great songwriter, and this is his first step into the Songwriters Hall of Fame!" he continued.
Post Malone Achieved RIAA 8-Diamond Certification
Notably, Post Malone achieved huge strides this year. He was the first musician in history to have eight singles be certified with Diamond by the recording institution RIAA.
