Keith Urban has been making music for decades, and while he has been recognized for his incredible singing and songwriting abilities in other awarding bodies, he has yet to be inducted into the world-famous Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

According to reports, Urban is finally receiving his flowers as a songwriter as he is to be inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame this year.

For Urban, this accolade will not only be a new milestone in his career, but a personal victory as well.

"It was my way to keep moving forward," the singer explained. "I could channel lots of things into it, all the frustrations and write more songs, make more recordings, keep figuring this thing out, unraveling it, really, and getting clarity, with the music being the way forward. Always the way forward."

Keith Urban Depended On Music During His Battle Against Addiction

Like most artists who struggle with personal and health-related issues, Urban revealed that he struggled with addiction during the early part of his career.

It was the addition that just led him farther into loving and making music, which is why he is grateful that things did not go south for him, instead he soared.

"The way in which I get to do it, the people I get to do it with, the abilities that I can access now ... I'm just very, very grateful. Extremely grateful," he added.

Upon hearing the news of his induction, Urban said, "It was a shock to get the call to find out I was nominated."

Ironically, he was in Nashville when he first caught wind of his newest achievement.

"I was standing at the back of Sound Stage (Studios) when I got the call looking across at where Shoney's (Inn) used to be ... which was where I stayed when I first came to Nashville in 1989."
