Scott Ian revealed the progress of Anthrax's new album months after the band wrapped its tour with Black Label Society.

Several Anthrax members spoke up about the band's upcoming album, which would be their first since releasing the 2016 "For All Kings." As months passed, Ian shared the exciting news with fans about the material's status.

Anthrax's New Album 2023

In May, Anthrax confirmed they had been working with producer Jay Ruston to complete the album. At that time, they provided no details about the target release date or potential album and songs' titles.

Speaking with Eddie Trunk on "The Eddie Trunk Podcast," the guitarist said they would finish recording by the end of this year. He also hyped fans by sharing that they had a session in Los Angeles with Charlie Benante and Frankie Bello, during which he tracked nine songs.

"I finished the guitars on those right before we went to New York, so sometime in June, something like that," said Scott. "Frankie is currently in L.A. tracking bass on those nine songs."

On the other hand, Jon Donais has been working on his guitar parts remotely, while Joey Belladona will reportedly start recording vocals by next month.

Why Anthrax Has Not Released a New Album

Ian's comment followed Benante's interview with Robert Cavuoto in April, when the drummer also talked about the new album. At that time, he said they would start recording but also clarified that it would not be out until 2024.

Anthrax might take eight years to release a new album if their upcoming record would arrive in 2024. As for the reason behind the delay, Benante said that Anthrax members - just like the other bands - were also affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The drummer disclosed that they worked on several tracks before the emergency health crisis started. Unfortunately, the recorded songs were "old" for him already, though they would still work on it.

Anthrax has yet to announce whether a tour will happen again soon. For now, Belladonna's Journey cover band, Beyond Frontiers, will begin their US trek this month.

The tour will start in San Diego on August 22 before the last show on November 19 in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Beyond Frontiers are expected to play some of Journey's hit songs like "Don't Stop Believing" and "Separate Ways."
