Kiko Loureiro has been significantly absent from Megadeth over the past few months, and it appears that fans won't be seeing him in concerts anytime soon as he extended his absence from the group.

More recently, he gave more details about his decision to take a break during an appearance on the "Amplifica" podcast hosted by Rafael Bittencourt, his bandmate from the group Angra.

When the topic about his absence was brought up by the musician, Loureiro offered an explanation, saying the reason he did it was because of "freedom."

He noted that he needs freedom and it "would have been the reason he went to the United States in the early 2000s, and at that moment, having freedom after nine years with Megadeth was important."

Kiko Loureiro Extends Megadeth Absence Because of His Freedom of Choice

Initially, as reported by Loudwire, the musician revealed that one of the main reasons he decided to step out of the group indefinitely was because of family reasons.

In the show, he explained that he took the liberty of not choosing the group because he has an option and a freedom of choice.

Kiko Loureiro Wanted to Prioritize His Family First

Later on, he discussed how his family has taken over his priorities amid all of the issues he's facing in his life at the moment.

He recalled one incident in 2011 when the group was performing in Rock in Rio in Brazil then his daughter was born minutes after he arrived home.

Later on, his twin sons were born in 2016, less than two weeks before Megadeth was set to perform on their series of concerts.

If ever it happens in the present, he wouldn't want the risk of missing the moment of his daughter's birth and even though the major rock festival was the reason he started playing the guitar in the first place, he wouldn't change his mind.

Regarding the decision to step out of the group to focus on his priorities, he noted that he was very comfortable with the band as there were no misunderstandings with his bandmates.

Regarding his future plans, he refused to answer the question.
