• Anohni, aka Antony Hegarty, First Oscar-Nominated Transgender Performer is Not Attending

History was made when Antony Hegarty, aka Antony of Antony and the Johnsons as well as Anohni, received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song for her collaboration with composer J. Ralph, "Manta Ray," becoming the first transgender performer to be named an Oscar nominee. Unfortunately, due to a situation that Hegarty has deemed "degrading," we won't be seeing her at the ceremony. In a new essay published on Pitchfork, the songwriter explained why she won't attend the Oscars and why she's appalled at the Academy.

  • 2016 Academy Awards Nominations Lack Diversity: Black Actors, Directors, Movies Snubbed

The 88th annual Academy Awards nominations are in, and we're sure you've spotted some "snubs," which comes with the territory for any awards ceremony. Unfortunately, there is a striking issue with the 2016 Oscars' list of nominees: a lack of diversity! 2015 was a great year for black actors, directors and movies, yet we don't get to celebrate them through coveted nominations. Check out some examples of snubs below.

  • Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston Both Snubbed by Academy for Oscar Nominations

Now Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie really do have something in common besides both being married to Brad Pitt at one point or another. This morning, both of them were snubbed by the Academy when it came time to announce the official 2015 Oscar nominations. Jolie was angling for Best Director for her (actually quite amazing) work on "Unbroken," while many believed that Aniston would be acknowledged for her work in "Cake."
  • Ranking The 2015 Academy Awards' Best Original Song Nominees

This morning, the nominees for the 87th Annual Academy Awards were revealed, including the nominees for Best Original Song. Though there were plenty of songs that were widely assumed to be shoo-ins, such as Lana Del Rey's "Big Eyes" and Lorde's "Yellow Flicker Beat," they were passed over for some pretty left-field choices (most surprisingly, only one of the songs on this list was also nominated for a Golden Globe). Here are the five Academy Award nominees for Best Original Song ranked, from worst to best.
  • 'Birdman,' 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' Lead Oscar Noms with 9 Each; Aniston, Adams, Jolie Overlooked

Usually in the weeks leading up to the Oscar nominations, a pattern from other awards shows begins to develop and we kind of have a clue of who will ultimately be nominated for Hollywood's top prize. This year is a bit different because so many of the categories are wide open with numerous strong contenders. This morning, "Star Wars" director JJ Abrams and last year's Best Director winner Alfonso Cuaron announced the first 12 categories live while Chris Pine and Academy President Cheryl Boone Pine followed with the next 12 categories. When all was said and done, "Birdman" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel" are leading the nominations with nine each. There are also a few surprises in there. Jennifer Aniston has been acknowledged with a few best actress nominations for "Cake," but she was not on the Academy's radar and neither was perennial favorite Amy Adams. Also missing was a nod for Angelina Jolie's directing in "Unbroken." Check out a rundown of some of the major categories and tell us your thoughts!
