• Jay Z's Latest Lawsuit

Jay Z just can't seem to catch a break these days when it comes to lawsuits. The Roc Nation boss-man is facing yet another lawsuit over the logo for his previous venture, Roc-A-Fella Records.
  • Schoolboy Q Featured On Jay Z's Decoded

Schoolboy Q has become virtually inescapable since the release of his TDE debut Oxymoron, which has debuted No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart. Q recently sat down with Jay Z's Life+Times series DECODED to break down the lyrics of one of Oxymoron's standout tracks "Hoover Street."
  • Jay Z and Beyoncé Top Billboard's Power 100 List

Billboard has released its annual list of the 100 most powerful figures in music, and once again, actual performers don't play much of a role. However, in one of the few spots on the list performers were able to grab, they grabbed a pretty good post: Jay Z and Beyoncé were named the most powerful "individual" in music.
  • Beyonce, Jay Z and Bruno Mars Added to Grammys Lineup

Music's biggest night is going to be graced by the industry's most powerful (and wealthy). According to a new promo from this year's Grammy network CBS, superstars Jay Z and Beyoncé have been confirmed to perform.
  • Taylor Swift Tops North American Concert Market during 2013

Billboard released its highest-earning tours list nearly a month ago, but the North American numbers might be more relevant to Music Times' American readers. Taylor Swift took the top spot in her home continent, followed by the worldwide no. 1, Jon Bon Jovi.
  • Jay Z Discusses Barney's in Guest Verse on Rick Ross's 'The Devil Is A Lie'

  • Nicole Oran's 2013 Playlist: Jay Z, Daft Punk and Savages

Music Times, like so many other music publications, was looking to publish a "Best of 2013" playlist. We met to discuss what such a playlist should include, and that's where we ran into trouble. We couldn't agree. Sometimes two of us just couldn't agree on whether the performer was amazing or terrible, and even when we agreed they were amazing, we couldn't agree on what track was most representative of their work. Hence it was decided that rather than try to agree (a seemingly impossible endeavor), everyone would get their own "favorites of 2013" playlist. We won't argue that these are necessarily the best tracks of the last year, but they're definitely songs that caught our respective attention and caused us to hit 'repeat" over and over and over again.
  • Jay Z, Dr. Dre, and Rick Ross Under Fire from Gospel Group

Copyright infringement is nothing new to music, particularly hip-hop. Every day it seems there's a new lawsuit alleging that some producer or rapper has borrowed unfairly, with the original owner suing for royalties, or whatever they're owed. Today's example may be less about the money and more about the divine consequences of the sample.
  • DJ Mustard Signs Artist Deal with Roc Nation

Rihanna and J. Cole are two pretty big names in popular music. Look forward to DJ Mustard joining their ranks soon. The producer/beat-maker just signed to Roc Nation, the home of the previously mentioned artists, under an artist's contract of his own. He was previously signed under a management deal with the label.
